Victim support in Berlin

Thisproject was not about documenting real individual fates, but about telling stories of possibilities. Through high-quality, cinematic imagery and sensitive staging, we have created a space where those affected can see: Here, I am understood. Here, there is help.

"Through conscious staging, we build a bridge between the anonymity of victim support and the need to talk publicly about these important issues."

Cinematic education: Case studies from Victim Support Berlin

What does support for victims of crime look like in practice? To illustrate the diverse work of Opferhilfe Berlin in a vivid and emotionally accessible way, we produced a series of staged interview videos.

The work of Opferhilfe Berlin ( Victim Support Berlin ) usually takes place quietly—behind closed doors, in confidential counseling sessions, and in moments of extreme personal vulnerability. But how can this vital support be made visible without compromising the strict anonymity and safe space of those affected? We faced this challenge when designing and producing our latest video series. The result is a project that uses the power of cinematic storytelling to bring the topic of the consequences of crime out of the taboo zone without revealing real biographies.

In a series of intensely staged interview videos, we give a face to abstract statistics. Since real-life victim support counseling is based on absolute trust and discretion, we deliberately opted for a completely artistic staging.

This means that both the stories told and the characters are fictional, but closely based on the typical experiences and challenges that people face after a crime. By using professional actors, we have succeeded in making the emotional complexity of trauma, uncertainty, but also hope and encouragement tangible.
